Ireland’s second Menopause summit, The M Word, in partnership with Linwoods Healthfoods, aims to continue what it started last year: a make-over of the modern menopause: how women experience it, how society views it, what it feel likes, what it looks like.
A dozen of Ireland and the UK’s established menopause and midlife experts will deliver the latest thinking on topics from HRT to lifestyle interventions like nutrition exercise, sleep; from the physical symptoms like sexual dysfunction and weight gain to the psychological symptoms of hormonal mood swings, anxiety, memory loss.
This ground breaking event for “Generation M” women 45+ will provide a roadmap as they navigate menopause’s 40-plus symptoms while juggling the multiple challenges of work, family and caring duties in an always-on modern world.
What to Expect?
Upfront and honest, Ireland’s only Clinical Sexologist Emily Power Smith will be on a mission to get mid-life sex lives back on track and end the distress of sexual dysfunction, a hot topic for Ireland’s 250,000+ menopausal women. The UK’s leading menopause campaigner and HRT expert Diane Danzebrink will
deliver some straight talking on HRT. Entrepreneur and Chef Domini Kemp, Confi-Dance coach Jane Shortall and Life Coach Orlaith Carmody will join a line up of fabulous women who are redefining mid-life.
Dr Mary Ryan, Consultant Endocrinologist will open the conference, bringing her empowering message to midlife women to prioritise their health. She will decode menopause (average age 51) and peri-menopause (average age span 40- 52), the period up-to-ten years before menopause, the implications for long term health and the options for symptom management.

The M Word is an event for women conceived and created by women: Aisling Grimley of menopause website My Second Spring, which has a global reach of over 1 million visitors, joined forces with Content editor Anna Mooney and Peri-menopause Coach Catherine O’Keeffe of Wellness Warrior to stage the first M Word Event in Dublin in 2019.
“All women go through peri-menopause and menopause, in Ireland right now, that’s upwards of half a million million women. For many, the symptoms will be challenging enough to disrupt their work, home life, relationships. ” says Aisling. “The M Word is about bringing expert advice to women on all aspects of their health, to meet these challenges. It is also about taking a positive approach to health and finding inspiration of the second half of life”.
Brands Giving Menopause a Make-over
The conference’s mission - to give menopause a makeover - reflects the changing attitudes to women beyond 45, one that some forward thinking brands have already embraced.
Linwoods Healthfoods, whose Milled Organic Flaxseed range is something of a superfood source for women at menopause, got behind Ireland’s first menopause summit, the M Word 2019, and returns as the principal brand partner for this year’s event.
Skincare brand VICHY will shed light on skin protection for women from late 40s on. The brand has research on menopausal skin for 18 years and developed the menopause-specific NEOVADIOL range. “During menopause the levels of hormones decline, which accelerates the ageing process” says Janette Ryan, Vichy’s Education Manager. “However, Vichy has identified DHEA as a key hormone capable of reactivating all the functions of youthful skin deep down.”

Every woman goes through menopause, but few talk about it. The three women behind the M Word Event set out to do something about that many years ago. The M Word Event in partnership with Linwoods Healthfoods is the culmination of their seven years experience in the menopause space.
Aisling Grimley set up the My Second Spring website 6 years ago to open the conversation about menopause and what it means for women, to provide information for the tough times and inspiration for the good ones. In 2018, My Second Spring had 2 million visitors, and is a daily source of support to women in the throes of hormonal havoc. Aisling is an in-demand speaker in corporate workplaces, at events and in media.
Anna Mooney is a writer, editor, content creator and former marketing professional and regularly contributes to the website and to My Second Spring Events. She and Aisling are co-founders of The Silk Pillowcase Company, which launched in 2019.
Catherine O’Keeffe (@WellnessWarrior.ie), Ireland's first peri-menopause coach, is a self confessed health geek, contributor to My Second Spring and international websites. She is a regular guest speaker at events throughout Ireland and holds Perimenopause Unplugged events all over the country to discuss all things menopause.
